Chibok Girls: Parents Mark Sixth Anniversary, As They Hope For Miracle

It has been six years since 276 schoolgirls were forcefully taken away from their dormitories at Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State by Boko Haram insurgents. 

Recall that 57 of the girls managed to escape. However, a total of 107 girls have been released as part of a deal between the Nigerian government and the armed group. 

Members of Abducted Chibok Girls Parents’ Movement for Rescue yesterday marked the sixth anniversary of their struggle to get back their missing daughters.

The anniversary of their abduction is always marked to draw the attention of authorities to the fact that the girls were still not back yet

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum’s delegation of commissioners and a lawmaker was yesterday in Chibok to support the agonizing parents, whose 112 daughters marked the sixth year since their abduction by Boko Haram on April 14, 2014. 

A prayer session was also held in Chibok, and parents kept hope alive, believing there daughters will back.

Commissioners of education, women affairs, Poverty Alleviation and the member, representing Chibok at Borno Assembly, delivered Governor Zulum’s message of empathy, hope and assurance; and also presented 500 bags of rice (25kg), 250 gallons of cooking oil and N5.6m cash as social support for parents of the 112 girls still held by Boko Haram.
