COVID-19- Senate Suspends Plenary For 14days

As part of precautionary measures to curtail the further spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country, the Nigerian Senate has suspended plenary for two weeks.

It was gathered that, the decision was made after a closed-door session of the Senate which lasted for an hour.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan appealed to the Federal Government to set apart special funds to fight the pandemic in the country and to help the victims of Coronavirus.

It was also reported that, the head of the House came up with the decision to shut down the green chamber in order to prevent the lawmakers from contracting the virus.

According to TheCable, the lower legislative chamber was to commence Easter break on Thursday, but the break has been fast-tracked in order not to expose the lawmakers to the risk of the virus.

In another development, the house also passed the Emergency Economic Stimulus Bill  (EESB) that called  on the Nigerian government to provide economic Stimulus packages including tax suspension and other measure to reduce the effect of the virus on Nigerians.
