Coronavirus Pandemic: Fuel Scarcity Looms As Tanker Drivers Suspend Services

Report says, Fuel scarcity may likely hit hard on the country soon as fuel tanker drivers have decided to stay away from the depots from Friday due to the coronavirus pandemic wrecking  havoc across world.

The Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), who disclosed this in a statement signed by the national president, Alhaji Yusuf Othman, stressed that its members’ services would be suspended until the COVID-19 pandemic is under control. 

He disclosed that: “This action is necessitated by the fact that our loading depots across the country are places of beehive of activities containing more than 500 persons at any one time.”

He added that, "the drivers should be rest assured that the national leadership of NARTO would stand by them at this critical moment". 

In a similar development, it was gathered that there are signs of vehicular queues at some fuel stations within Abuja and some part of the country yesterday due to the closure of some fuel stations.

It would be recalled that Nigeria recorded 14 new positive cases yesterday, while the NCDC disclosed that Six of the new cases were on a ship (oil workers) three were returning travellers, and one close contact.
