The United States has disclosed that the Al-Qaeda insurgent group has started to penetrate the north-western part of Nigeria.
Commander of the US special operations command, Africa, Dagvin Anderson, disclosed this during a briefing, adding that said the group is also expanding to other parts of West Africa.
Anderson noted that for international efforts to yield desired results in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria, the government must take the lead.
He further said no nation can fix the problem for Nigeria but can only assist
He said:
He said:
the United States can assist, the United Kingdom, other countries can come in, many countries can come and assist with that partnership – but ultimately it takes leadership from Nigeria in order for us to focus our efforts.
Meanwhile, Nigerians on social media have reacted differently to the report.

The claim by the U.S. that Al Qaeda & ISIS are planning to infiltrate the south is alarming. If true, the south will soon experience the barbarity & savagery that the north has been subjected to by these two terrorist organisations over the years. We must UNITE to save Nigeria.— Femi Fani-Kayode (@realFFK) August 6, 2020

In 2015, a Top wanted ISIS commander; Ahmed Al-Assir, got arrested in Lebanon on his way to Nigeria with a valid Nigerian Visa.
Who gave him that Visa? The FG didn't bother to investigate the Visa issuer pic.twitter.com/ieuKLqIeNN
US intelligence has alerted Nigeria about “ISIS & Al-Qaeda’s plans to start attacking Southern Nigeria & make incursions into the North-West”— NEFERTITI (@firstladyship) August 6, 2020
But fear not, “Buhari’s army will capture them & within 3 months, they will repent & put on white & green garments on their convocation.” pic.twitter.com/5alzf8MfTH
Why won't ISIS considered Nigeria as their next line of target? Nigeria soldiers will capture them, and they will repent in no time, and they will rejoin d society, aby you r not thinking what I'm thinking? pic.twitter.com/oQ7YM8LzMl— The Mechanic. (@Akanbi_Agbe) August 6, 2020
We're still battling with Boko Haram. ISIS & Al-Qaeda are also coming. I think they have heard the way President Buhari is treating Boko Haram well than the citizens of this country— IFA FUNSHO (@funshographix) August 5, 2020
The same US warning us kept silent about how Buhari is giving Boko Haram special treatments

Most of us knew the Fulani herders Militia (otherwise called Bandits) by the Buhari FG, that has operated predominantly in Katsina & in Southern Kaduna are in fact an “advance party” of ISIS & Al-Qaeda terrorists.— NEFERTITI (@firstladyship) August 6, 2020
Just so you know, US intelligence warning came late in the day... pic.twitter.com/pBTAc5cCxj
God I hope this news about ISIS and Al-Queda isn't true😩😩 I don't even want to start imagining things 🥺🥺— Mz Blaze (@Mhizblesyn) August 6, 2020
Nigeria that cannot even handle Fulani herdsmen or Boko Haram 😔😔
ISIS would have seen that Nigeria is a fertile soil to kill and breed rubbish, and if caught at the end, they will let you walk, so why not take their chances. Nigeria is about to sink, and you are blindly defending this regime, that simply shows how heartless we have become. pic.twitter.com/ttykcfr2wW— Michael Mathias ⚪️ (@IamMichaelMatt) August 6, 2020
