The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has disclosed that it is yet to approve any herbal medicine for the treatment of COVID-19.

The Director of Public Affairs of the agency, Dr Abubakar Jimoh, in an interview with THEPUNCH said drug could only be certified for use after going through clinical trials.

He said there's the need to go through the necessary procedures as it involves human lives, adding that it is not proper to put together concoction and expect people to consume it.

The Director further noted that, the problem in the herbal medicine industry is that, until recently, most of them are illiterate and do not understand the language of science.

He added that the agency is trying to teach them how they can pass on the knowledge by connecting them with the academics who understand the language of science stressing that science is one and accurate.
