COVID-19: Seyi Makinde Gives Update As Cases In Oyo Rise To 364

The Governor of Oyo State Engr Seyi Makinde has confirmed 30 new cases of COVID-19 in the state.

The Governor who is also the head of the COVID-19 task force disclosed this while giving update on the COVID-19 situation in the state on his verified twitter page.

Confirming the total number of confirmed cases in Oyo State to be 364, he added that out of the 30 new cases 11 are from Ibadan SE, 8 from Oluyole, 6 from Ibadan North, 2 from Lagelu, 1 each from Akinyele, Ibadan SW  and Ibadan NE LGAs. 

He further revealed that, the new cases are results from the five community-based testing centres recently activated which  confirms community spread in the state.

He later urged citizens to strictly adhere to the guidelines social distancing, wearing of face masks in public.

He wrote:

1. The COVID-19 confirmation tests for thirty suspected cases came back POSITIVE. The cases are from Ibadan SE (11), Oluyole (8), Ibadan North (6), Lagelu (2), Akinyele (1), Ibadan SW (1) and Ibadan NE (1) LGAs. So, the total number of confirmed cases in Oyo State today is 364.

2. These new thirty confirmed cases are results from the five community-based testing centres recently activated. This confirms community spread and requires strict adherence to the guidelines on social distancing, wearing of face masks in public and proper hygienic practices.

3. The Emergency Operations Centre will commence additional community-based testing at Oyo East, Itesiwaju and Oyo South Local Government Areas on Monday, June 08 2020. The community-based testing drive will take place in ten locations across the state.
