Report says, a mid-night fire dilapidated part of Gwagwalada main market and destroyed goods worth millions of naira.

According to a trader and eye witness, Haliru Usman, reported the incident happened around 1:25am yesterday, while he was at home.

He added that, some people called to inform  him about the fire outbreak and he quickly rushed to the market to discover that 10 shops had already been destroyed.

He further said his shop was not really affected  by the fire, as the fire fighters arrived the scene on time while residents had brought detergents to help in putting out the fire.

In thesame vein, a victim, Muhammed Sani Galadima, revealed  to the newsmen that the incident happened around 1:48 pm when he was in the mosque praying.

He added that, his wife  was not at home and  before he arrived home, all his viable properties were burnt to ashes, adding that he and his neighbors could not retrieve anything from the apartments.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the council,  Adamu Mustapha, has visited the market and sympathized with traders whose shops were affected by the fire as well as the market management.

He thereafter assured those affected that a committee will be set up to ascertain the level of damage with a view to assisting the victims.

It should be noted that the entire market was shut down last week following government directive to close markets as a measure to contain coronavirus and as at the time of filing this report the cause of the outbreak is unknown.
