Report says, President Muhammadu Buhari has pardoned 2,600 prisoners as part of measures to decongest prison facilities in the country.
In a press conference in Abuja, the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, said pardoned inmates will be processed and released today.
Aregbesola said that the decision to grant the inmates presidential pardon is to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The personal Assistant to Mohammad Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmed disclosed via his official Twitter account.

1. Inmates 60yrs & above 2. Those suffering from ill-health likely to terminate in death 3. Convicts serving 3yrs & above & have less than 6 months to serve 4. Inmate with mental issues 5 Inmates with option of fine not exceeding N50k
