COVID-19 - OYSG To Impose Travel Restrictions

The Oyo State Government has disclosed that it might impose travel restrictions at the State’s entry points, as part of measures to  curtail the further spread of Coronavirus  in the State.

The Executive Chairman, Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA), Dr. Akin Fagbemi, revealed this today March 25, during a radio interview at COVID-19 situation Room in Ibadan.

The Chairman said, the State Government would only allow very important travels into the State, which would be subjected to rigorous health checks.

He added that, “All entry points into Oyo State (land and airways) may soon be closed. Entry and transit by any vehicle would be subjected to robust health check of all passengers”.

He also noted that, the transportation sector could be a major carrier of novel virus, if not adequately managed, he therefore called on transport companies, transport unions to support the government in the fight against COVID-19.

He further urged them to provide hand-wash stands and sanitizers in their garages, he called on passengers to cooperate with them by washing their hands with soap and water and sanitize them before boarding.

The chairman noted his Agency would collaborate with other security agencies to enforce compliance in the state.

While he solicited for everyone’s prayers and compliance with the State Government’s orders on social distancing, by suspending all social, cultural and religious activities in the state.
